Compliancy Group Helps Miiskin Achieve HIPAA Compliance

Compliancy Group has announced that Miiskin has taken all necessary steps to prove its good faith effort to achieve compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Rules.

Miiskin is an app and teledermatology platform provider whose solution is currently used by more than 500,000 individuals around the world to track skin changes. The smartphone-based app empowers users to closely monitor the health of their sin and provide their physicians with essential health information during check-up appointments.

The platform uses the latest machine learning, computer-vision and augmented reality to empower users to identify new moles and perform self-examinations to determine changes to existing moles and accelerate diagnosis of skin cancer.

Since the app is used to collect, store, and transmit protected health information, Miiskin is classed as a business associate and is required to comply with certain provisions of the HIPAA Rules.

To ensure that the platform and Miiskin’s policies and procedures were fully compliant with the HIPAA Rules, the company partnered with Compliancy Group. Using Compliancy Group’s proven HIPAA compliance methodology, and tracking progress toward HIPAA compliance using Compliancy Group’s proprietary HIPAA solution (The Guard), Miiskin successfully demonstrated the company was in compliance with all appropriate provisions of the HIPAA Rules.

“Compliancy Group’s process was much simpler and quicker than I expected. As a SaaS provider, that doesn’t work with paper PHI, the process was further simplified. Their guided support gave me confidence in my compliance – especially as a European company, with no prior HIPAA knowledge. I couldn’t find anything about the process, or the materials, that I disliked,” said Jon Friis, founder of Miiskin.

After completing Compliancy Group’s 6-stage risk analysis and remediation process, the company’s good faith effort toward HIPAA compliance was assessed and Compliancy Group awarded Miiskin the HIPAA Seal of Compliance.

The HIPAA Seal of Compliance demonstrates to current and future clients and app users that the company is committed to ensuring the privacy and security of protected health information and has implemented an effective HIPAA compliance program.
